Dixie State University Theatre Department proudly presents “Everybody,” the award-winning Pulitzer Prize finalist comedy that asks us to consider: What is a life well lived? The production is directed by DSU Assistant Professor of Theatre Matt Koenig, and it runs from February 24 – March 5 in the DSU Eccles Mainstage Theatre. The Curtain is 7:30 PM. Koenig, graduating from the University of California, Irvine, with an MFA in Acting, recently joined the DSU Theatre faculty.

What do you do when Death comes knocking to tell you that your time is up? Everybody, who doesn’t want to meet Death alone, starts looking for people and things to take into the afterlife. Along this existential, hilarious, and life-affirming journey, Everybody meets Friendship, Strength, Kinship, Beauty, Cousin, Mind, Stuff, Senses, and Love. Who or what will Everybody be able to take to the grave?

“I’ve been eager to share with audiences the work of the brilliant Branden Jacobs-Jenkins,” said Koenig. “His whimsical, contemporary take on the classic morality play asks us to take stock of what really matters in life and when we leave this world what do we leave behind..” With humor and humility, Jacobs-Jenkins deftly reminds us that on the other side of the ever-present, seemingly random nature of Death and loss is the equally powerful possibility for Love.

“‘Everybody’ is one of those plays that feels familiar, because the story exists in all cultures in one form or another, but in this contemporary setting, it feels fresh and relatable, and I find that so important to keeping both the art of theatre and classic stories, alive for new generations.”

“Everybody” features a diverse cast of 9 DSU students, Mercedes Murguia

Brooklyn Reilly, David Parry, Brooklyne Peterson, Braden Nash, Abby Smith, Kailey Robinson, Carly Young, Kaila Williams, Autumn Smilowitz. The creative team also includes  Jackie Thomassen (Assistant Director), and faculty members Chelsea Richards (Scenic Designer), Kris Davies (costume Designer), Henry Echeverria (lighting and sound).

“Everybody” is rated R due to strong language and content; we encourage patrons to use their own discretion in determining the age-appropriateness of the material. Please contact Chelsea Richards, crichards@dixie.edu for additional details. Visit DHU website theatre.dixie.edu/performance-schedule/. All productions are FREE ADMISSION.
