June 25, 2025 — Garfield County, UT

Containment efforts are gaining traction on the France Canyon Fire, which has now grown to 32,053 acres with 15% containment. A total of 821 personnel are currently assigned, and conditions have allowed crews to carry out large-scale tactical burns designed to strengthen containment lines and reduce fuels across critical areas of the fire.

West and East Flanks See Progress

On Wednesday, tactical firing operations on the western flank successfully burned from Proctor Canyon south toward Big Hollow, producing intense smoke from the thick pinyon-juniper vegetation—visible to nearby communities.

North of Proctor Canyon, crews faced less favorable conditions and paused burning until weather improved. Work continues in this area with the goal of tying operations into existing lines near Hillsdale, supported by aviation resources for aerial ignition and monitoring.

To the east, crews closed the critical gap from the southern edge of Tropic Reservoir toward Skunk Creek. A UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) module was deployed to assess small unburned pockets and determine if additional aerial ignitions are needed. Crews across the north, east, south, and southwest perimeters are actively mopping up and widening containment lines.

Night crews monitored hot spots near Proctor Canyon and Tropic Reservoir while structure protection groups maintained a strong presence in nearby communities.
