HORRORFEST INTERNATIONAL BRINGS OVER 40 FILMS TO SOUTHERN UTAH INCLUDING SPECIAL GUESTS JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN!

Since the early 2000s, HorrorFest has prided itself on the showcasing of countless horror gems of yesteryear in a bid to not only keep the spirit of horror film history alive but to entertain (and scare) audiences and to champion the theatrical experience. In 2020, this spine-tingling celebration of all things horror will broaden its horizons by going international! That’s right! This year, HorrorFest will showcase genre films–shorts and features–from all over the world. With over 40 titles, the festivities will take place from Thursday, October 22nd thru Saturday, October 24th. Megaplex’s Pineview Stadium 10 and the historic Electric Theater will serve as venues throughout the 3-day celebration.

HorrorFest International will be hosted by the film-centric 501(C)(3) nonprofit, Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU.) Through the gracious aid of the City of St. George, Washington County, a vibrant arts-loving community, an undeniably passionate festival team, and an incredible collective of filmmaking talent from here in the state of Utah and from all around the globe, FMASU promises attendees this will be the most fun you’ll ever have being scared.

From a special curated screening of Sam Raimi’s legendary 80’s classic “Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn,” to the northern-Utah produced “They Live Inside Us”; A thrifty, creative, and atmospheric ode to both the witching season and to the art of storytelling, to the U.S. premiere “Broil”; A sometimes brutal, often heartfelt, and always high energy tale of a wealthy family with quite the deadly secret, to “Fear of the Woods”; A white knuckler of a man vs. beast thrill ride starring Vernon Wells of “The Road Warrior” and “Commando” fame, to “Milk”; The sinister story of a boy facing something truly terrifying when pulling a late-night beverage from the fridge, to “Centigrade”; A relentlessly intense thriller in which a man stranded in a motor home desperately tries to free himself, to “Antique”; A beautifully executed haunter about a bathtub with a dark history, to “Seek”; a moody and grimy monster-centric gem about a road trip gone bad, to “Downs of the Dead’; A humor laced zombie film with quite an inspirational hook, to  “Plainsong”; A music-tinged creature feature in which the sea calls to a lonely young man, to “Regret”; A terrifying story of grief and battling your inner demons. HorrorFest International is sure to deliver the goods to fans of the ultimate Halloween-time genre but it should also be noted that this festival prides itself on showcasing a wide range of horror.

In addition to films, HorrorFest will also host an awards ceremony, a trivia competition, and a costume contest. Additionally, this 3-day celebration will see the return of the Halloween Edition of the Guerilla Shorts Showcase, which just so happens to be celebrating its 15th anniversary this October! 23 filmmaking teams comprised of storytellers of various ages and skill sets were each given the theme “End of the World” and a limited amount of time to put together 5-minute short films using any resources available to them. The end results are wildly creative.

Beyond that, HorrorFest International will march out a handful of special guests including the iconic fan-favorite Ted Raimi (“Red Light,” “Deadwax,” and “Evil Dead II”); A wonderful character actor whose been in the business for nearly 4 decades, as well as Colin Cunningham, a terrific actor known for his memorable work in the likes of “Preacher” and “Falling Skies.” Additionally, HorrorFest will present a live script read as well as what promises to be a bloody-good special makeup effects demo with local legend, Cragun Clayburn.
