The complete list of films to be screened includes “Killing Me,” “The Teacher Arrives,” “The Condemned (The Hat Trick Trilogy, Part I)”, “Hoan Alone: Personal Stories from the Bridge,” “Tapferkeit,” “How to be a Good Housewife,” “Running for Hope,” “The Colorado,” “Becoming Rich,” “Nikki,” “OUT HERE,” “Looking for David,” “The Carolers,” “Jijivisha,” “The Typewriter,” “Noose,” “Coyote’s Dream,” “Finished Long Since,” “Birds of Prey,” “I’ve Got The World On A String,” “Factory: The Musical,” “Jeff Lowe’s Metanoia,” “The Perilous Pilgrimage of Princess Pearly Whites,” “And You’re Mine,” “The Last 40 Miles,” “The Wild Misadventures of Jesse James and Billy the Kid,” and “Controllable.” Descriptions of the films are also available at kanabfilm.com.
The Kanab Film Festival was conceived by husband-and-wife creative team Jeff and Britt Roth. In early January, the Kanab Arts Board voted to take on creating a film festival and applied for a grant from Kane County Office of Tourism. The grant was awarded in mid-January, and Jeff immediately got to work organizing a crew that included Britt as well as Kanab yoga teacher Dana Balafas and Kanab Arts Board member Mike Lee. The self-dubbed “Mighty 5” crew, along with the help of some key volunteers, have rallied together a full-fledged film festival boasting 46 submissions in under three months.
Tickets are still for sale at the incredibly low price of just $20 for three-day passes, and single day passes are only $10. Tickets for 12–17 year-olds are half that and all are available through kanabfilm.com. Entry to a private filmmaker kickoff party and swag bags are available only for a limited number of three-day passes on sale until April 8.
Josh Warburton is 2019 Chair of Kanab Arts Board.
