Closet scribblers and published writers alike are registering now for the seventh annual Kanab Writers Conference to be held Oct. 12 and 13 at Kanab High School in scenic Kane County. This conference is beloved because of its intimate atmosphere and access to presenters, all successful writers. Bestselling author Elana Johnson, both an indie and traditionally published writer, is the keynote speaker.

Pulled together by a committee whose various members reside in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada, the Kanab Writers Conference is unique for several reasons.

The first is the setting. Attendees come back year after year to enjoy the creative boost of the splendid red rock surroundings.

Another unique feature of the Kanab Writers Conference is the plein air writing experience the morning of Oct. 12. Attendees hike through a colorful landscape to find a place to perch and write undisturbed.

The afternoon of Oct. 12 is dedicated to a hands-on self-publishing segment. Attendees will each contribute to an anthology and participate in its development from manuscript to a book available on Amazon.

The “regular” part of the conference begins the evening of Oct. 12. Twenty-three breakout classes cover craft basics, genre, marketing, editing, audiobooks, children’s books, the business of writing, and much more.

The Kanab Writers Conference has received funding from the Utah Humanities, which empowers Utahns to improve their communities through active engagement in the humanities. The conference also received funding from the Kane County Office of Tourism.

To find out more information, check out the affordable fees, and register for the conference, go to kanabwritersconference.com. From now until Oct. 3, receive a $25 discount on conference fees by entering the coupon code “abrakanabra.”

The website has information on area accommodations with hotels and hostels in all price ranges. There are many Airbnb units in the county as well. Attendees are encouraged to secure their housing early as October is still tourist season in Kanab.
