Line Dance Class Kicks Off with a Bang in Kanab

On Saturday, December 11 Kanab Line Dance held its debut class at the Kanab Center Gymnasium with a well-attended night. Attendees were treated to the first line dance class taught by Kanab resident Annabelle d’Artois in what looks to be a great new ongoing series. The classes are planned for every Saturday night at the old high school gym located on the back/East side of the Kanab Center.

Annabelle moved from Kauai, Hawaii to Kanab in 2019 to start a new life after 13 years there working for one of the large Luau companies as a professional dancer.

This location provides a central spot with lots of parking and ample room for people to spread out and kick up their heels. The classes will continue every Saturday night through February 5 (except Dec. 25, which will be moved to the 26, and Jan. 1, when there is no class). After that time the plan is to move the series to a new venue (to be determined) as the gym will be going under renovation.

“Kanab captured my heart when I visited, and it was just the place I was looking for.” After two years here she saw an opportunity to create something that she hopes both locals and visitors alike will enjoy.

“Dancing is universal, and this gives folks something to do on a Saturday night in Kanab” d’Artois stated.

The specific dances and arrangements are shared with the St. George area-based “Heart of Country” group that hosts their weekly classes every Tuesday night in Washington Utah. This gives people learning the dances in Kanab an opportunity to use the same steps at the closest other weekly regular dance class in the region, where 250+ people regularly attend.

Everyone is encouraged to attend whether or not you have any line dance experience as each dance is broken down step by step. The cost is $10 per person and there is a 4 class pass option for $30.
