Kanab’s “Little Hollywood Shoot-Out” returns April 4

Attention filmmakers of all ages and all skill sets! Want to make a movie? “The Little Hollywood Shoot-Out” quick turnaround filmmaking competition is  for you. Spearheaded by Kelly Stowell and presented by the breathtaking city of Kanab, this is the eighth edition of this Kane County staple.

This is how the “shoot-out” will go down. Those interested in taking part must register at littlehollywoodshootout.org. On Wednesday, April 4, registrants are required to meet at the historic Parry Lodge in Kanab at high noon. At this meeting, registrants will be given a set of ground rules, a theme, and a list of multiple locations to choose from to be used as a backdrop in their projects. It should be noted that this is a beautiful area to shoot a film. Kane County is rich with film history, having served as a home to iconic productions including “The Outlaw Josey Wales” and “Planet of the Apes.” Having an opportunity to shoot at these amazing locations is simply the icing on the cake.

Following the meeting at the Parry Lodge, film-makers will then have until 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 6 to finish their five-minute short film projects using any resources available to them. The completed films can be submitted in person or online. There is a $35 entry fee for Indy Pro Division and a $15 fee for Excel Division.

All the completed films will be screened at Kanab’s historic Crescent Moon Theater on Saturday, April 7 (check website for official showtime). The screenings are free, so bring your family and friends and lend your support.

There will be substantial cash prizes awarded to the strongest short films of the bunch, but this competition is really about getting creative and showing off your storytelling abilities, so come on out and take part in the cinematic adventure.
