Memory Matters frontotemporal dementia caregiver support group
Memory Matters Utah/Nevada, in conjunction with The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, will offer a frontotemporal dementia caregiver support group Dec. 10 from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the St. George Library.
Frontotemporal dementia, also known as fronto-temporal lobar degeneration or Picks disease, is distinct from other forms of dementia in two important ways: It is a gradual, progressive decline in behavior and/or language with memory usually relatively preserved, and onset often occurs in a person’s 50s and 60s but has been seen as early as 21 and as late as 80 years of age. While there are currently no treatments to slow or stop the progression of the disease, research is expanding, producing greater understanding of the disorders.
Bonnie Shephard, who sits on the national board for The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, will facilitate the caregiver support group, which is free and open to anyone caring for someone with this type of dementia.
For more information about the support group, call (435) 319-0407 or email janet.labrum.mmu@gmail.com, or visit memorymattersutah.org. The St. George Library located at 88 W 100 S in St. George.
