Meyeres Wins Commission Seat B, Kubeja Holds On To Lead for Seat A
After a long campaign season, a late election night, and a full day of counting and adjudicating, updated results for Kane County’s elections have finally been released.
While still unofficial until the November 22 canvassing, the updated totals represent the counting of nearly all the ballots in the Clerk’s office possession. 245 more ballots were counted today. However, 157 of those ballots still need to be adjudicated or double-checked by hand to verify accuracy. Another 375 ballots in yesterday’s totals were adjudicated today. That leaves just a small number of votes to count before the canvass; those received by mail that were postmarked by last Monday and approximately 53 provisional ballots, which are ballots cast at the same time a person registered to vote.
While this updated count is still not complete or official, it represents what one Clerk’s office official at “a really good guess,” meaning the remaining votes to be received and counted will not likely change the outcome of any of the elections.
Here are the updated results:

Celeste Meyeres comfortably beat her two opponents Democrat Pat Horning and write-in candidate Camille Johnson in the race for Seat B.
When reached for comment, Meyeres texted, “Thank you to the election staff, volunteers, candidates, and voters who all participated in the process! I am excited to continue serving, this time as a Kane County Commissioner. As I move on from Kanab City Council, there will be an opening to be filled by selection of the remaining Council.”
Johnson stated, “I want the best for Kane County. We now all need to unite and move forward for the betterment of Kane County, and I hope those elected have much success. And I’m proud of the campaign we ran.”
Horning said, “Well, we earned every vote we got. And I just want to thank everyone who voted. We gave it our best, we stayed on the issues, and we didn’t sling mud.”
I reached Patty Kubeja by phone and shared the updated results with her, and asked her for a comment. She stated, “I am humbled and honored by the support and trust given me by Kane County Voters. I am honored to be chosen to serve you as a commissioner for the next four years. A huge shout out and thank you to all the volunteers and county employees that worked diligently to give us the privilege to vote.”
I also reached out to Andy Gant, but he could not be reached for comment by press time.
In Utah, losing candidates who are within .25% of the total votes cast in the election can request a recount. Currently, the closest race is about 5% between the winning and the next candidate.
