2022 Kane County Utah General Election Preliminary Results | Kane County Courthouse
Because most voters will vote by mail, counties do not count all votes on election night. Mail ballots postmarked by yesterday, Monday, November 7, and received after the election are not included in the election night preliminary results, but they are included in later releases.

Updated 11/9/2022 – Commission Races Updated: Here

Final Update for the Night – 10:50 PM:

No more vote counts will be released tonight; however, we expect them to be updated tomorrow, Wednesday.

It is important to note that there is a substantial enough number of votes left to be counted that the outcome of any of the close races could change upon the complete counting of all the votes. At this time, those votes still left to be counted include:
161 not yet processed
55 in process
And 38 challenged ballots.

Additionally, there are 53 Provisional ballots (folks who registered to vote and voted at the same time) still to be counted as well as 375 ballots pending adjudication; that’s basically the process of them hand-verifying that the correct votes get counted in each race. Those 375 likely need adjudication because they reference a write-in candidate in one or more races, so a significant number of those could go to the two write-in candidates, Andy Gant and Camille Johnson.

Seat A is currently separated by just 234 votes so that race could tighten or even flip; however, we believe it is safe to say Celeste Meyeres is the winner of Seat B.

Similarly, School Board 4 is only separated by 19 votes currently, and School Board 5 is separated by a bit larger 59 votes…however, it is currently unknown how many ballots in either School Board race remain to be counted, so those totals may or may not change tomorrow.

We will plan to update this article again on Wednesday when we receive the updated counts, which should be very close to the final numbers. That said, the official canvassing happens on November 22, when the clerks are required to certify the vote counts as final.

2nd Update – 9:05 PM:

There are still many ballots that need to be adjudicated, meaning they have either an overvote, an error or a write-in candidate.

The first preliminary vote totals have now been released and are as follows:

Kane County Commission Seat A:
Patty Kubeja 1661
Andy Gant (Write-In) 1427
Overvotes 16
Undervotes 286

Kane County Commission Seat B:
Celeste Meyeres 1570
Pat Horning 776
Camille Johnson (Write-In) 967
Overvotes 20
Undervotes 57

School Board 4:
Loral G Linton 264
Marc Grow 283

School Board 5:
Brian C. Goulding 284
Jarad Brinkerhoff 343

1st Update – 7:40 PM:

With just 20 minutes to go before polls close, the Kane County Clerk’s office officials have now processed 3100 ballots, with 3200 received so far. Many continue to need adjudication primarily due to the ballots containing write-in votes. The county mailed ballots to approximately 4900 total eligible voters. 564 votes over the counter today.

According to the Clerk’s officials, no vote totals will be released until everyone in line at 8 PM in every county has voted. This will likely create a delay in reporting.

Kane County Clerk officials have said there might only be a single batch of reporting tonight, but it could be two, and they will let me know when they release the first batch of totals if it is the only batch tonight. And that batch will likely not be until after 9 PM tonight.

As Of 2:40 PM:

2900 ballots have been run through the counting machine, and approximately 2000 have required adjudication because of an over-vote, possible error, or because they have a write-in candidate. While purely speculation at this point, that seems to bode well for one or more of the write-in candidates. Those 2900 were collected through this morning, and there have been over 100 more ballots cast today, with many more expected throughout the rest of the day. Actual tallies for each candidate are done on a second and separate machine where they are tabulated. No actual vote totals are legally allowed to be released until after the polls close at 8 PM. The Kane County Clerk’s office was asked by the state to delay the release of any results until all voters in line to vote in Iron County have voted, meaning the first round of vote totals are likely to be later than normal, which is usually just after polls close. So please be patient this evening.

Check back or refresh this article throughout the evening, as we will be updating this article as results become available.
