Pam Palermo has been selected as the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce’s new president and CEO. On Oct. 12, the Chamber’s board voted to approve Palermo for the position after a search committee conducted an extensive nationwide search.

“There were many qualified applicants that could have taken this position and done well,” said acting chair Tracey Welsh, “However, the hiring committee felt that Pam was not only qualified to accomplish the goals of the Chamber, she also has the desire and passion to see that our business community thrives.”

“I am honored to be elected as the new president of the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce,” said Palermo. “The Chamber’s work is vital to the business community and I look forward to teaming with the Chamber’s board, volunteers, and staff to grow the organization and to promote the interest and ensure the livelihood of local businesses.”

Palermo comes with extensive business experience, having most recently served as director of membership services with the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce. Prior to this position, she took a financially bankrupt company and turned it into a multi-million-dollar company. She was responsible for an array of responsibilities including human resources, sales, marketing, finance, purchasing and quality control.

Palermo served in the Air Force, currently volunteers with the Red Cross Services to Armed Forces, and is the American Legion Post 90 financial officer. She also serves on the Legions Ritual Team.

The Chamber’s current president and CEO, Gregg McArthur, has been Palermo’s biggest proponent.

“I have teamed with Pam now for two years and have experienced firsthand her abilities, vision and passion for our businesses and this community,” McArthur said. “I can think of no one better positioned to build on the current foundation and take the Chamber to a new level.”

Palermo will begin working in her new position on Nov. 1.
