Dixie State University Votes On New Name

The committee organized to come up with a new name for Dixie State University voted 11-3 (with two abstentions) in favor of Utah Polytechnic State University.

“The name will establish the university as an institution that serves to benefit students from the entire state while providing a broad identifier to those outside of Utah,” according to the committee’s official statement.

  1. This is just a politically correct and stupid idea.
The leftwing in this country has been actively destroying, manipulating and blackwashing the traditions, culture and history of the European descended citizens of the country.

    • Steve, I’m part of that leftwing and feel the name and you having to include partisan politics into every facet of life SUCKS. Your parents have told you time and time again to quit playing with their computer, listen up.
If this group had to erase a historic name because of the whinners in the back ground, they could have at least chosen a name that will not make us the laughing stock of the collegiate world.

  2. Your poll isn’t working which is a shame because I’d like to see what the residents think, not just some woke board of people. I grew up in Henderson, NV at a school where being white was the minority. Many of my teammates in Football were hoping for a chance to play at Dixie. No one complained about the name and it was never suggested that it was racist at any time that I can remember. People need to stop feeding into politics and worry about what they can do to help the school be better instead of spending millions on rebranding. I love living here in Southern Utah and what the Dixie spirit stands for, but unfortunately I think this will hurt the school. #getwokegobroke

  3. I think Utah Polytech (Tech) is a great and practical choice for the long term good of the University. Could drop “State” from the name. Utah Tech or U Tech both sound good.
