public invited

Today the BLM is giving the Public Lands Foundation Landscape Stewardship Award to Grand Canyon Trust representatives for the organization’s work at Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. Vermilion Cliffs National Monument Manager Kevin Wright nominated Grand Canyon Trust for the award for their “tireless work in the areas of Vermilion Cliffs National Monument and House Rock Valley,” Wright’s nomination stated.

Some of the good works accomplished by Grand Canyon Trust, which won the group the nomination and award, include thousands of donated hours assisting the BLM in removing invasive species such as tamarisk and Russian Olive from the Paria River in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, placing structures to protect sensitive plant species including the Siler fishhook cactus and Brady’s pincushion cactus, and retrofitting fences for safe wildlife passage.

Bill Lamb, former District Manager for the Arizona Strip and former BLM Utah State Director, will present the award to Grand Canyon Trust representatives at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the interagency center at 345 East Riverside Drive in St. George, Utah 84790. The public is encouraged to attend.
