Art lovers will have the opportunity to see creativity in action when Raven’s Heart Gallery hosts its Summer Show on Saturday, June 13, from 1–4 PM at 57 W. Center St. in Kanab.
While gallery visitors typically experience finished works displayed on the walls, this free community event offers a rare chance to watch artists demonstrate the techniques, tools, and creative processes behind their work.
Throughout the afternoon, gallery artists will transform the space into a working studio. Gail Alger will present an acrylic animal painting demonstration, while Angela Woods showcases her whimsical animal subjects in oil. Rebekka Anderson will guide visitors through the intricate process of color reduction linocut printmaking, and Ken Ragsdale will demonstrate his signature “basket illusion” technique, hand-painting detailed patterns onto a hand-turned wooden vessel using a fine brush and magnification.

Additional demonstrations highlight the gallery’s diverse artistic community. David Lane will share his process for capturing the Milky Way above Southwestern desert landscapes through astrophotography. James Mosdell will demonstrate lapidary work using Grand Canyon Opal, while Ellie Mae Clough explores mixed media through photo transfer on encaustic wax. Gary Kalpakoff will showcase both his wild mustang photography and metal sculpture work.
Featured artwork for the event includes Raven in Flowers by Gail Alger, serving as the Summer Show’s signature image. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view large-scale oil paintings from The “Vicktory” Dog Collection and Mill Dogs’ Revenge Collection by Cyrus Mejía, co-founder of Best Friends Animal Society and co-owner of Raven’s Heart Gallery.

The Summer Show brings together a strong roster of regional artists, including Andrea Johnson, Angela Woods, Bonnie Dunn, Carol Bold, Colleen Tomlin, Cyrus Mejía, David Lane, Ellie Mae Clough, Gail Alger, Gary Kalpakoff, James Mosdell, Ken Ragsdale, Rebekka Anderson, and Willamarie Huelskamp.
Home to more than 30 regional artists, Raven’s Heart Gallery fills both its main level and upstairs loft with works spanning painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, ceramics, and mixed media. During the Summer Show, visitors can experience the gallery in a new way, watching art move from process to finished piece.
