The uncertified results of today’s election included few surprises here in Washington County with all Republicans winning their respective races handily.

Washington County Proposition 3, known as the RAP tax, passed by a narrow margin, winning around 51-percent of votes. The vote totals were 14,346 for and 13,702 against. The measure will impose a one-tenth of one-percent sales tax on non-food items, which will, in turn, fund recreational and arts groups and facilities throughout the county.

Republicans Victor Iverson and Zachary Renstrom both won sound victories in their races, with Iverson garnering 74-percent of the vote, beating Democrat Paul Van Dam, and Renstrom winning over Chris White with 76-percent votes to White’s 24-percent.

Jon Stanard won Utah House Seat 62 over Democrat Shirley Nelson, winning 81-percent of the vote to Nelson’s 19-percent. For Seat 74, Democrat Dorothy Engelman was defeated by incumbent Lowry Snow, 76-percent to 24-percent. Don Ipson won out over his two challengers, Democrat Cheryl Fae Hawker and Nihla Judd of the Independent American Party, winning more than 66-percent of all votes cast in that race.

In total, 28,827 of 67,259 registered voters participated in the election, representing approximately 41-percent of voters in Washington County.
