Seussical Now Playing At The Electric Theater

Seussical is a musical comedy based on the works of Dr. Seuss. This whacky production weaves together the most famous tales and characters from at least fifteen Dr. Seuss books. Traveling everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to McElligot’s Pool, some of the characters fall in love, some have desperate adventures, and some even save the world. When it comes to Seussical, “Anything’s possible!”

This experience was created for families to perform together, often a rare experience. Leads include up-and-coming actor Davin Smith who will melt your heart as the young boy JoJo. Audiences will be thrilled to see local theater veteran Joel Thomas, who after 16 years, will reprise his role as Horton the Elephant. Only this time, his wife and three children (one who is just a year old!) will be joining him onstage.

The well-known and beloved husband and wife duo Brad and Barb Christensen will play the roles of the feared General Genghis Khan Schmitz, and the sassy Mayzie La Bird. Their daughter Emeline Christensen will play the role of the love-stricken Gertrude McFuzz. Leading the story as the Cat in the Hat, Geoffrey Reynolds (UTU’s Raging Red Director) will “pop up here and there (and you’ll never know where!)” throughout the show with his wife and their 6-year-old daughter. Jamie Cook will ignite the stage as the Sour Kangaroo, and by her side, you’ll see her husband and all four of their children. Many other families will take the stage together, some for the very first time!

This show is directed by Brianna Rosia, who is finally fulfilling her 15 years long dream of directing Seussical. Along with Amy Gleave as the director of music.

Seussical will run June 29 – July 16, 2022. Shows will run Wednesday – Saturday at 7:30 PM, and July 2-9 at 2:00 PM.

At the end of July, The Stage Door will be presenting A Bedfull of Foreigners by Dave Freeman. This show was first performed in London’s West End in 1973 and has since been turned into a movie in 1998. It is a comical farce, following in the footsteps of Boeing Boeing which we brought to you last summer. A Bedfull of Foreigners is set in a small town on the France and Germany border. A couple on vacation finds a hotel room during a busy festival. The couple, played by Michael Lee and Danalee Dial, first think they are lucky. However, they soon realize they are wrong when another couple has rented the same room by mistake.

The second couple is played by Ginger Nelson and J. Bryan Dial. As the two couples attempt to maneuver this disaster, confusion and chaos ensue with the arrival of a secret girlfriend, played by Allie Koller. These five characters, along with the two hotel workers played by Trey Paterson and Coy Andrew Shinn Jr. combine to give the viewer sharp humor, a mixture of foreign accents, and an evening where everything goes wrong.

Joshua Scott, The Stage Door’s artistic director, will be directing this show. Josh has directed numerous other shows for The Stage Door, the former Dixie State University, and throughout the community. Among the shows he has directed for The Stage Door are Boeing, Boeing, Sweeney Todd, and Chicago. Josh is excited to be directing comedy again during the hot summers of Southern Utah. He originally directed for the Comedy Storm series of summer comedies at DSU with Varlo Davenport before the program was discontinued and left a void in non-musical entertainment.

Tickets for both shows can be purchased online at thestagedoortheater.com or by calling the box office at 435-656-4407. All performances will be held at the Electric Theater at 68 E Tabernacle, St. George, UT 84770.
