Snake Hollow Bike Park hosts Skillz and Thrillz Challenge

By David Cordero

The first-ever Snake Hollow Skillz and Thrillz Challenge is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 9 and will include a professional demonstration by Logan Binggeli and Jaxon Riddle at noon.

“The popularity of Snake Hollow Bike Park is off the charts,” said Aaron Metler, recreation supervisor for races and special events for the City of St. George. “During this event there is something for everyone, whether you ride regularly or just appreciate the beauty of the sport.”

The event will have five age groups to choose from: 5 and under, under 8, 8–12, 13–17 and 18 and older. Each age group, except for 5 and under, can choose one of two events: Pump Track or Skillz Competition. The Pump Track is a timed obstacle course. In the Skillz Competition, three judges will rate tricks.

“Bring your ‘A-Game’ and show us what you got!” Metler added. “You will be competing against your peers. Don’t sell yourself short.”

Certain portions of Snake Hollow will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration for the Snake Hollow Skillz and Thrillz Challenge is open through Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. Sign up here. All participants will receive a shirt and a medal and will have a chance to win prizes.

One year ago, Snake Hollow Bike Park opened to great acclaim. On any sun-filled afternoon, cyclists abound on each skill station of Utah’s only year-round bike park. Though their ages vary — from little ones on strider bikes to middle-aged adults — their enthusiasm radiates throughout the western St. George venue. Snake Hollow (1500 N 2400 W) encompasses 80 acres of land in west St. George, located primarily on the west side of the park, with some additional courses on the east side along Tuweap Drive. There are hundreds of features and four skills zones: Rattler’s Revenge (dirt jump zone), Snake Den (pump track and skills loop), Venom Drops (gravity skills) and Sidewinder Slopestyle (gravity jump trails). The park includes a large pavilion, restrooms, paved trails, utility connections and a parking lot.
