Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located five miles north of Kanab at 5001 Angel Canyon Road. All adoptable cats and dogs are spayed or neutered and are up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have questions about a specific pet or the adoption process, please email adoptions@bestfriends.org. If you’d like to apply to adopt one of these featured pets, click the link to their bio where you will find the adoption survey.

Shiva

Shiva is as sweet as she is beautiful. She is shy at first and needs time to build trust with people, but she loves interacting and playing with her dog friends. Shiva is still learning to walk on a leash and would do best in a calm, patient home without a lot of activity.

Since she feels so comfortable around other dogs, Shiva would do best in a home with another confident dog to show her the ropes. Due to being able to scale fencing, Shiva needs supervision when in a fenced area. If you’re interested in meeting Shiva, please fill out an adoption application today.

Spicoli

Spicoli is an adorable young lady who is always up for an adventure. She is a spunky girl with plenty of energy and loves to play with other dogs.

She is very outgoing and smart and will sit politely for treats.

Hildago

Hildago is a sweet young pup who is slowly learning his way around this big world. He can be nervous meeting new people, but he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. This shy guy can be won over with lots of treats and patience.

Once you break down his walls, Hildago will show you his goofy, bouncy, playful side and instantly melt your heart. He would love a family who gives him plenty of exercise and will take the time to help him build his confidence.

Lagertha

Lagerthais playful, and loves the outdoors and playing with other cats.

She is semi-friendly and could become closer to humans as she progresses, or could benefit from a working cat situation.

Helga

Helga is a beautiful, rugged, independent girl. She loves to play and does get along with other cats.

With some patience, she could become friendly with humans or could thrive in an outdoor working cat situation.

Bjorn

Big and handsome Bjorn will steal your heart with his gorgeous green eyes! He is a curious and busy boy who also likes human attention.

He started off a little feisty with felines but has learned a bit about boundaries, from living in the sanctuary. In the end, his playful, rascally nature will win you over as he tries to warm his way into your home.

Sammy

Sammy is currently in a foster home with several other dogs and doing great. He is housetrained, walks well on a leash, rides great in the car, and loves everyone he meets. Contact us to arrange a time for you to meet Sammy.

Emmy

Emmy is a playful border collie/kelpie mix. She is almost 2 years old, medium-sized, spayed, chipped, and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is currently in a foster home living with another dog and a young child. She is housetrained, walks well on a leash, loves to play with a ball, and is friendly with new people.

Emmy can be a little too submissive and lacks confidence in certain specific situations. She will need a patient person that can work on training to build up her confidence. Emmy is very trainable and would make a great hiking companion and perhaps even a flyball competitor. Contact us to set up a time to meet this very sweet girl!

Checkers

Checkers is approximately 2-3 months old. Wow, what a beauty! We have no idea how such a good-looking puppy ended up at an overcrowded shelter, but luckily, he’s on the road to a better future! The Border Collie breed is a high-energy, exceedingly intelligent dog. Checkers will need constant stimulation and activity as his breed is very intelligent, high-maintenance, and notoriously full of energy.

Checkers wants nothing more than a family to call his own as he is extremely devoted to those who love him as much as he loves them. Won’t you please consider adopting this handsome fella?

Lucas

Lucas can be a bit sensitive and it may take time for him to settle into your life with you. Once he feels more secure there’s no doubt that he’ll be playful and active. He would do best with older children who can respect his boundaries and be patient with him while he settles in.

With patience and lots of treats, of course, Lucas will open up and become a great addition to the group. He’ll need daily exercise and interactive play time with you.

Lucas has lived in a backyard and is not comfortable being inside a home at this time. He is not house-trained. He loves attention, quiet, and just chilling.

Joey

Joey is a very handsome shepherd mix puppy, who came to the shelter with 5 brothers and sisters. Joey will need to be socialized with other pups and given opportunities to exhaust his puppy energy.

He will need to be taken out to potty every few hours…even during the wee hours of the night. He will definitely need a patient and loving family to work with him! Also, because he is still a pup, he can learn to get along with children and other animals.

Chandler

I’m Chandler! I’m an exuberant puppy with a constantly wagging tail and a huge grin on my beautiful face. My eyes sparkle with glee because I love absolutely everybody I meet and everyone who meets me loves me right back.

Since I’m so young I have lots of energy, and I’m strong too – the volunteers are helping me learn good manners BUT everything is so much fun I will need lots of reminders. I’m smart and enjoy learning tricks.

I  came to the shelter with 5 brothers and sisters. Oh, and I will need to go out and go to the bathroom every 2-3 hours. I sometimes have to go at night, too. I hope you don’t mind if I have to wake you up to take me out. I am still pretty young.

Tonya

This beautiful young lady is Tonya. She is by far one of the sweetest kitties and very talkative too. Tonya enjoys spending time with her people. At first, this little cutie is quiet, but the more time you spend with Tonya, the more her personality grows.

In no time at all this sweetheart will be rubbing against you, meowing for your attention. Doesn’t this lovely lass sound like the girl for you? If so, please stop in and meet Tonya.

Macy is a small/medium mix approximately 30 pounds. She is approximately 3-4 years old. She is a beautiful blend of a little bit of everything!

She can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly. Macy is NOT comfortable around young children.

This blond cutie is a good girl on the leash and likes long walks. She would do well in an active, adult-only home. Macy would love to have a home where someone is home with her most of the time.

She does well with other dogs. Macy is spayed and up-to-date with her vaccinations. She absolutely loves DogTV! This girl is paws-itively perfect and would love a home of her very own.

Matt is neutered and current with his vaccinations. He’s looking for his fur-ever home where he will be loved and cherished always.

Why not adopt Matt and another kitten so they can grow up together and be bffs?!

Quincy

Although she isn’t doing the full husky howl yet, baby Quincy is already very talkative and she has plenty of important things to say.

Born May 31st, she’s almost … but not quite … house trained. She loves water and would be so happy with an adopter who doesn’t mind snuggling a wet girl! She has fun with dogs of all sizes and even gets along with cats!

Quincy’s going to make a great family dog but her puppy teeth are razor sharp and she likes to bite so she should be fully supervised around kids. She needs lots of chew toys until those big-girl teeth come in.

Bing and Chunk

Brothers Bing and Chunk were surrendered together and have rarely been apart since they were born 2 years ago and, although we would love for them to be adopted together, we think they’ll be fine separately.

Bing, named for his beautiful Bing Crosby eyes, is energetic, playful, and loves to chew (antlers and durable toys preferred). He also enjoys cuddling and giving kisses. Bing has some fear of riding in cars and freezes up and doesn’t want to get in. However, after just a few trips to the dog park with our fabulous volunteers, he’s already becoming more relaxed and has a great time once he gets there. Trips to other fun places should help him continue with his progress.

Chunk is a big softie who, as his name suggests, loves his food and very much looks forward to mealtime but he does fine eating with other dogs and has never shown any food aggression. He loves his snacks!

Both pups are good with other dogs, cats, and kids and will make a great addition to an active family. As puppies, Bing and Chunk may do better with older children who will make sure not to leave toys laying around. (Did we mention both do love to chew and will need supervision since they will swallow toys if allowed.) Both Bing and Chunk would benefit from some training as they can jump and be mouthy when excited and haven’t had much experience walking on a leash. They need a loving family with room to play and time to help socialize them.

Izzy

One-year old Izzy is such a happy girl. She adores everyone (ok, we don’t know about cats yet) and loves to romp with kids, other dogs, or by herself if no one else is available.

Izzy is housebroken, spayed, microchipped, and is fully vetted. This super-sweet girl is anxious to begin her new life with a special person or family that adores her. She’s super smart and has a lot of puppy energy still so might do best with a family with kids and/or other dogs and would love a big yard to explore.

Roxy

Roxy needs a playmate!  This girl is so affectionate, full of life, and smart, smart, smart!!! She wants nothing more than get outside and play ball, tug, you name it–she just wants to play!

Unfortunately, life changes didn’t allow pretty Roxy to stay with her family and she has to be re-homed. She’s a wonderful girl (did we mention that she’s smart?) who needs someone with an active lifestyle and time to help develop her mind. She would probably be a great agility dog, frisbee fetcher, and/or running/hiking partner. And once she’s worn you out, she’ll snuggle up to you on the couch for cuddles and cookies. (Exercise and cookies- you can’t lose!) And can you imagine gazing into those gorgeous eyes every day?

Dash

Some Native American cultures believe having heterochromia (one blue eye and one brown) means one can see heaven and earth at the same time. They refer to this as having Ghost Eyes and beautiful Dash definitely has them. And if his eyes don’t melt your heart, his cute little nose will! Not only is he stunning, but he’s also a total love bug who will melt right into your arms.

Dash was dumped at Parowan Gap and lived on his own for at least two weeks. One of the local families put food out for him until he became brave enough to be coaxed inside where he immediately found the couch. He was good with their kids and dogs.

Dash is young (we’re guessing six months to a year) and has a lot of energy. He likes to play with other dogs but can be enthusiastic so he’ll do best with some training. He’s afraid of loud noises and sudden movements and terrified of water from a hose. Who knows what this sweet boy went through before he was left to fend for himself? He deserves so much better.
