ST. GEORGE, UT – Adopt a new pet today! The Independent’s Southern Utah Adoptable Pets Guide features adoptable pets from various animal shelters throughout southern Utah.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located five miles north of Kanab at 5001 Angel Canyon Road. All adoptable cats and dogs are spayed or neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have questions about a specific pet or the adoption process, please email adoptions@bestfriends.org. If you’d like to apply to adopt one of these featured pets, click the link to their bio where you will find the adoption survey.

RuPaul

RuPaul is a sweet, gentle older guy. He enjoys spending time with people and hanging out with mellow dogs. RuPaul is working on gaining weight, and we’re working on helping him with a few senior dog challenges. RuPaul is a big teddy bear so he’d love to meet you! If you’d like to meet him, please fill out an adoption application today.

Lacy

Lacy is a sweet girl who enjoys the company of people and other animals. She’s friendly with the dogs and cats in her foster home, and she does an adorable dance when her foster parents get out the treats. If you’d like to give this senior gal a relaxing, pampered retirement home, please fill out an adoption application today.

Fluffernutter

If you are looking for a funny happy guy to keep you company and become your new best friend Fluffernutter is the dog for you. Fluffer loves to meet new people and greets them with a full-body wiggle, a big smile, and a wagging tail. As soon as Fluffer sees you putting on your walking shoes and grab his harness, he is ready to hit the road with you, whether it’s a car ride or just a leisurely short walk. He will be there with you if you just want to hang out and binge on some movies too. One of his favorite things is belly rubs!

Fluffernutter is learning his commands like sit, place, and down. He can be picky with making dog friends, but when he does make a dog friend he will even play if he is in the mood. Fluffer sees cats as an animal to chase, so a home without cats is best.

Gerty

Gerty is a beautiful, gentle cat who is looking for someone to love her forever. She is easygoing and affectionate and is just as happy receiving pets as she is lounging in a sunny corner. Come meet Gerty and find out if she is the cat for you!

Meridian

Meridian is one of the sweetest cats you will meet! She is very shy, but a gentle touch causes her to purr, make biscuits, and roll over for more! She would do well in a quiet home where she can build a loving relationship with her new family and take time to realize she is safe. This cutie will melt your heart with her sweet meow and gentle nature.

Sunbeam

Auggie and Ollie

Auggie
Ollie

Hi! Our names are Auggie and Ollie. We were rescued from a hoarding situation. We had been rescued from a camping trailer. We were nervous and scared at first but we have learned humans can be very loving and caring. We like playing with toys and cuddling together so it would be wonderful if we could be adopted together.

We are both gentle, playful, brave, curious, quiet, independent, and house-trained.  Help bring love to us, and we will double it in return.

Toby

Hi, I’m Toby. I was found abandoned. Sometimes I tend to get jealous when someone else is getting attention so a home where I could be the focus would allow me to flourish. I was a little reserved and to be honest, scared the first week I was here. Now that I know it’s safe here I have become much more social. Let me reassure you, I would be very happy to meet you and come to live with you. I am going to need lots of exercise and I am a little high energy when I first get outside but then I calm down and really soak up the lovin’ & attention that I am given. Ya know, a guy can’t pass up attention. I sure am ready for my life to look up again and I can’t wait to find a family that I can rely on and love forever. My adoption fee is $60.

Millie

Millie was found abandoned with her mother Tillie. She is six months old and she can be a little shy until she knows you. Tilly loves people and playing with toys. She is learning to walk on a leash and knows “sit”. Her adoption fee is $60.

Tillie

Tillie was found abandoned in a yard wearing a collar and dragging a leash. She came with her daughter Millie. She is shy but warms up quickly, and loves to be with people. She is doing well with basic manners and leash walking. She is a beautiful dog. Her adoption fee is $60.

Samantha

13 months old Samantha is an independent cat that is looking for a home without a dog or cat as she has a very strong personality. This independent gal knows what she wants – a loving home where she can be the queen of the castle. Samantha enjoys getting attention but prefers when it’s on her terms. She will do best in a quiet home where she can be the star of the show. She will rub up on you affectionately. She will greet you at the door and tell you about her day and ask you about yours. She likes hanging out with you while you are doing your chores and she wants to know what you are doing. This fine lady needs someone with some patience, who will work with her and make her comfortable with her surroundings. Her adoption fee is $40.

Pye

Pye is a calm and quiet lady that asks for very little in life. Pye is very easygoing and will never pass up a nice chin rub or scratch behind the ears. Once you start giving this pretty girl attention, she will rub and head butt you asking for more. She would love to share her new home with respectful people of all ages. If you are looking for the purr-fect lady Pye may be just the one for you. She prefers to be an only pet and would prefer a quiet home where she will be allowed to adjust at her own pace. She is sweet, comes when called, likes to be carried like a baby, and is sure to be a wonderful friend. Her adoption fee is $40.

Bella

Bella came to the shelter when her owner went into assisted living. She is adjusting well to all the changes in her life. She has never been around other animals but is interested in the other cats in the cat room. She is microchipped. She loves being petted and will sit by your side to enjoy your company. Her adoption fee is $40.

Sir Bacon

Hope you like playing ball because Sir Bacon LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to play ball. This beautiful, social boy could play all day. He’s good with the other dogs, a little afraid of cats, and probably great with kids.

Sir Bacon would make a great agility dog. Beware, however, he can and will jump! His adopter should have a high, secure fence to keep him safe.

Bacon has been neutered and microchipped and is up to date on his vaccinations. If you’re interested in Sir Bacon, submit a BAM Adoption Application and, if approved, we’ll contact you as soon as possible to arrange a meeting. If you don’t hear back within 7 days, please text us at 435-773-5209.

Paintbrush

Paintbrush is a stunning boy with the cutest splotchy nose and an infectious smile. We guess his age at a year or less. He’s quite social and enjoys a good game of catch.

Paintbrush is available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster-to-adopt. Once he has been neutered, the adoption can be completed and this beautiful boy will be all yours!

Greta

Greta was born approximately July 1. She’s good with other dogs, kids and cats too! She’s loving, sweet, and playful and wants all the attention for herself.

Greta is available LOCALLY ONLY as a foster to adopt. Once she has been spayed, the adoption can be completed and this cutie patootie will be all yours!

Ozzie

Ozzie is a sweet, playful girl who is ready for any adventure. At 3-1/2 years old, she has a lot of energy and loves to play. This girl can occupy herself alone outside but also loves to romp with kids and other dogs. She will always be happy to stop to give you kisses and follow you around admirably.

Ozzie does have a strong prey drive, however, so cats and chickens are not going to be safe with her. She’s an amazing dog that someone gave up on too soon. She is ready for a parent or family to give their love and time to her.

Diamond

Eight-year-old Diamond is a gentle girl who would give anything to be in an easy-going home with someone special who will take her on leisurely walks and activities and smother her with hugs! She adores sitting in the shady grass and just being loved on.

The poor girl was rescued from a kill shelter in California and, even though she’s safe now, she’s not a fan of being kenneled and would much prefer sitting on a couch with her humans all day watching soap operas.

Diamond enjoys the company of other dogs and will gently remind those that are too playful to be respectful of her age. She’s not a grumpy old lady though–if you ever want a laugh, just get a toy out and watch her play. She steals everyone’s hearts. She has lots of love in her and just needs someone to share it with.

Roxy

Roxy needs a playmate!  This girl is so affectionate, full of life, and smart, smart, smart!!! She wants nothing more than get outside and play ball, tug, you name it–she just wants to play!

Unfortunately, life changes didn’t allow pretty Roxy to stay with her family and she has to be re-homed. She’s a wonderful girl (did we mention that she’s smart?) who needs someone with an active lifestyle and time to help develop her mind. She would probably be a great agility dog, frisbee fetcher, and/or running/hiking partner. And once she’s worn you out, she’ll snuggle up to you on the couch for cuddles and cookies. (Exercise and cookies- you can’t lose!) And can you imagine gazing into those gorgeous eyes every day?
