Southern Utah University hosts “What Makes and American?” panel discussion

On Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m., the Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Service will host a panel discussion, “What Makes an American?” Panelists for the event are student Abdikadir Eftin, Clint Kelly, and professor Kholoud Al-Qubbaj. The event will be held in the Sharwan Smith Student Center (room 112) on the campus of Southern Utah University and is free and open to the public.

The event focuses around the understanding of what makes an American, which can be a sensitive topic at this time during an election cycle. The panelists will be asked a series of questions from Leavitt Center Executive Council moderators.

The event aims to bring together those at Southern Utah University and in the community to better understand different perspectives of what makes an American. Those in attendance will observe perspectives on different backgrounds, religions, and journeys that create the identity of “American.”
