St. George Astronomy Group star party coincides with Sunset on the Square
The Independent
As part of the bi-monthly Sunset on the Square free movie event, the St. George Astronomy Group is planning their biggest star gazing party yet. On Friday, June 26, they are going to set up an information booth and have a star party at the Town Square in downtown St. George. They will set up solar telescopes for safely viewing the sun, and as it becomes dark, the regular telescopes will be set up. Local astronomers are predicting that Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn will be visible, rings and all. With the last Sunset on the Square event drawing over 1,000 people, the St. George Astronomy Group is excited to spread their knowledge and love for celestial bodies.
The St. George Astronomy Group will start on their booth at 5 p.m. and be ready for the general public at 6 p.m. for solar viewing. At 8:30 p.m., they will have the telescopes ready for the night time viewing. They are asking for all members with telescopes to come and support the group. With so many people in attendance, they would appreciate all the help they can get for this fun event. Those with a solar or regular telescope who are willing to help out are encouraged to email [email protected] for more details.
In addition to the St. George Astronomy Group, the June 26 Sunset on the Square is being billed as “Nonprofit Night,” and the free movie will be the 1971 classic “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” staring Gene Wilder. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and goodies for this free family-friendly event. For more information on Sunset on the Square, visit https://www.sgcity.org/cityevents/index.php#tab-1.
