In observance of National Park and Recreation Month, the City of St. George invites residents to connect through a host of activities and events planned throughout the month of July. Established in 1985, National Park and Recreation Month is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the many professionals and volunteers who maintain the country’s local, state, and community parks – and the lasting impact they make on the lives of tens of millions of people.
“For the past 40 years, we’ve been delighted to honor the outstanding teams that make our parks the envy of everyone who visits St. George,” said Shane Moore, Director of Parks and Community Services. “With 51 parks – and counting – we are proud of the City’s ability to serve our residents with the cleanest, best-outfitted parks and facilities available. We look forward to seeing the community get outside and get together for this month-long party.”
The celebration kicks off with the annual Fourth of July celebration. Independence Day events will include the Uncle Sam 4K and 8K fun runs, the 4th of July Parade, and a concert with country superstar Russell Dickerson at Greater Zion Stadium. To top it off, Southern Utah’s biggest fireworks show will light up the sky, and there will even be free popsicles to mark the 15th anniversary of the Town Square Carousel.
Also on tap in July will be special guided walks, outdoor yoga, open studio at the St. George Museum of Art, and an ‘80s-themed night at the City Pool. There is sure to be something to keep every family member engaged and entertained.
As a special treat this month, the City will provide free popcorn to attendees of the Movie in the Park screening of “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” in Town Square on July 10. Free ice cream will also be served – courtesy of the Dairy Farmers of America – at the July 13 Concert in the Park featuring the Rebel Jazz Band in Vernon Worthen Park. The movie and concert are both free and open to the public.
