Local musician Alice Ericksen will present a workshop and share tips on stage presence, tricks for overcoming nerves, and the principles of positive connection between an audience and an artist. The workshop is hosted by the Southern Utah Songwriters Association (SUSWA) and will be held April 21 at 7 p.m. at Spiral Studios, located at 879 East Tabernacle St. in St. George. Other topics will include how a musician becomes an entertainer, the difference between a singer and a frontman or frontwoman, and the elements of an engaging performance.
Ericksen is the frontwoman for Soul What!? And Lyonhead, and also performs with John Houston’s Gospel Choir. Her studio experience includes commercial jingles and backing vocals for other artists, and she has opened for acts such as Firehouse and Manhattan Transfer and shared the stage with the likes of Sugar Blue and Tab Benoit, as a touring member of Tas Cru’s Band of Tortured Souls. A certified teacher with a master’s degree in educational leadership, she co-owns of The Academy in St. George with her husband, Dick Earl, providing music lessons for children. In addition to private sessions, these students enjoy the opportunity to play concerts with their peers in a band setting.
The workshop is free for SUSWA members and their guests.
