SUU Community Education wraps up first year

By Haven Scott

At the close of its first full-year of operation, SUU Community Education offered more than 100 community-based classes with more than 850 residents signing up.

“We survey the community every year and really try to offer the classes they request,” said Susie Knudsen, assistant director at SUU Community Education. “The response from the community during our first year has been overwhelming. Many of our participants also spent quality time with family members and friends while enjoying fun, educational opportunities.”

Cedar City resident Nate Slade surprised his wife, Amber, last week for their wedding anniversary. The gift of choice? An SUU Community Education cake decorating class entitled “Mirror Glaze.” The couple said the class was a much needed break from the normal daily routine.

“It was really fun to attend together — Nate was so brave to come with me,” said Amber. “And, we both learned a lot together about cake decorating. But the most fun was making a few new friends along the way.”

SUU Community Education offers community classes, workshops, and events while engaging residents with fun, cultural, and educational opportunities for those who love to learn. While increasing participant knowledge, these non-credit courses are designed for community members wishing to meet new people, develop new hobbies, or improve areas of personal interest.
