Dr. Christian Bohnenstengel, an assistant professor the SUU Department of Music, is seeking musicians of all ages and abilities to participate and perform in the Piano Monster Concert: A Wild Ride. The SUU Piano Monster Concert series spotlights piano ensembles that range in size from duets to groups, with as many as 24 pianists playing together on eight grand pianos.

Under Bohnenstengel’s direction, this year’s program includes such diverse works as Edvard Grieg’s “Morning Mood” from the “Peer Gynt Suite,” Johann Strauss II’s “Blue Danube Waltz,” Gioachino Rossini’s “Overture to ‘The Barber of Seville,’” Kevin Olson’s “At the Robot Factory,” Jeanne Costello’s “The Cricket and the Bullfrog,” Emilie Lin’s “Sneaky Fox Boogie,” and Melody Bober’s “Back and Forth Waltz” as well as her “Hot Popcorn!”

Registration for the Piano Monster Concert is open until Oct. 2. Late registrations will be accepted if space is available. The registration fee is $5 per participant. Performers should also plan on spending between $5–$15 to purchase sheet music at Cedar City Music, The Music Store in St. George, or online.

The Piano Monster Concert: A Wild Ride will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theater. A mandatory dress rehearsal will be held on Nov. 9. Upon receiving registration materials and fees, Bohnenstengel or a member of his team will contact the performers to arrange rehearsal and performance groupings.

Performers must wear semi-formal attire to the performance and sign in at the Heritage Center Theater lobby welcome desk at least fifteen minutes prior to their scheduled dress rehearsal time and twenty minutes prior to the concert. Each performer will receive two complementary tickets, and additional tickets will be available the evening of the performance.

Tickets for the Piano Monster Concert: A Wild Ride are $6 for adults, $4 for SUU alumni with ID, and $3 for youth. Admission is free for SUU faculty and staff and students with current ID. For more information or to register, visit the Piano Monster Concert webpage. Email Bohnenstengel with any questions, or call him at (435) 586-1935.
