On Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in the SUU Auditorium, artists, authors, and educators Todd Stewart and Robert Bailey — who have engaged in many collective works including photography, art history, education, documentation, fieldwork, research, and writing — will present at SUU’s Art Insights.

“Todd and Robert have been colleagues of mine for quite some time,” said Jessica Farling, SUMA director and curator. “I’m thrilled to not only be able to bring their work to campus, but for them to share their insights with the faculty and students of the SUU department of art and design. They bring a genuine enthusiasm for our landscape, which I hope inspires everyone to explore and find new inspiration.”

Stewart began his career as a photographer more than 25 years ago working for advertising and design clients in Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia. As an artist and educator, his research and creative concerns center on the cultural landscape and focus particularly on intersections of history, myth, time, and perception. Stewart is an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma where he teaches courses in photography and imaging. Prior to joining the School of Visual Arts at OU in 2004, Stewart received a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and a master’s degree from Indiana University.

“Last summer’s collaboration with Southern Utah Museum of Art and Southern Utah University was a great success and a wonderful experience,” Stewart said. “We are very excited about returning this fall to share some of the results.”

Robert Bailey is an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma, where he teaches the history of contemporary art as well as the historiography and methodology of art history. He is the author of “Art & Language International: Conceptual Art between Art Worlds” and the editor of Terry Smith’s “One and Five Ideas: On Conceptual Art and Conceptualism.” Bailey participates in the Fieldworks initiative, along with Stewart, and contributes to the Inhabiting the Anthropocene research group and its blog.
