Join the Symphony of the Canyons for multiple engagements in August. Kortney Stirland, artistic director of the orchestra for the past 31 years, brings the musical arts to life with free concerts. The orchestra consists of musicians ranging in age from elementary school students to octogenarians. Symphony of the Canyons shares the joy of music with residents of and visitors to our beautiful region of the United States. Through performances and music classes and lessons, they bring music into the hearts of people, inspire creativity, and enrich the community. All musicians volunteer their time and talent to bring the sounds of classics, jazz, and rock to rural southern Utah and northern Arizona. During August, there are four dates to choose from.
Beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 5, the orchestra will perform at the Kanab Terrace at 7 p.m. The terrace is located across from Parry’s Lodge behind the museum. The event is free and open to the public.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, take a scenic drive out to the North Rim and enjoy the sunset on the Grand Canyon Lodge patio while listening to the Symphony, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Arizona time. The event is free and open to the public.
Venture over to Orderville and enjoy the Kane County Fair’s numerous activities Aug. 8 to Aug. 15. On the last day of the fair, come and hear the Symphony perform at 12:30 p.m. in North Center. Check www.kanecountyfair.com for a schedule of events and fees.
Take a stroll along Kanab’s main highway for summer shopping and a concert in the parking lot of the State Bank at 7 p.m. on Aug. 20. The event is free and open to the public.
Symphony of the Canyons is also sponsoring the first Little Hollywood Half Marathon through the scenic U.S. Route 89 North’s beautiful red rock landscape on Aug. 22, with a free concert at the finish line. For more information and registration go to www.symphonyofthecanyons.org.
