The 4th Annual Mesquite Balloon Festival Jan. 24-25

4th annual hot air balloon festivalWritten by Scott Dunford

Even though these guys are full of hot air, there’s no lack of color and scenic photo opts aplenty at Mesquite’s annual Balloon Festival. So get your cameras out and get ready for a new desk top image or hot air balloon themed postcard to send to friends and family.

On Saturday, January 24th, at 7:30am (weather permitting) they will begin the launch of 40 hot air balloons from the Oasis special event parking lot in Mesquite, Nevada. A sight you have to see to appreciate. The sheer magnitude of 40 colorful balloons in flight over Mesquite’s perfect blue skies is one you will not want to miss. But don’t leave yet; it gets even better with a bird show in the CasaBlanca grand Showroom that day as well.

“Squawk” appropriately named for the magnificent tropical birds that perform tricks and promise to amaze and dazzle parents and children of all ages will be showing twice on Saturday, offering plenty of flexibility with the first show at 9:30am – 10am and the second at 11am – 11:30am.

And later that afternoon, if you stick around, and you should, adults 21 and older will be treated to a champagne tasting party that’s free to the public in the CasaBlanca Skydome Lounge.

Six to eight different varieties of champagne will be served as a tribute to the grand tradition of Hot Air Ballooning, a sport that began in France and continues today with landing pilots being welcomed in farmers’ fields with a peace offering of champagne.

That night the festivities will continue with a “Balloon Night Glow” in the CasaBlanca South parking lot.  All the lights go out to enhance the effects of half a dozen balloons as well as 10 “candling” balloons (the basket portion of the balloon that sends fire without the balloon itself).  They’ll be fired up and this awesome glow will be choreographed to music. And if that isn’t enough, you can check out the music of Led Zepplin performed by Zepplin USA in our Showroom.

Zepplin USA (ZUSA for short) is a 4-piece, non costumed band that delivers the best of the Led Zepplin’s studio sound and live concert performances. The fans and critics seem to agree…ZUSA is currently the best-sounding Zep tribute band anywhere! The band features Brody Dolynick (vocals), Steve Zukowsky (guitar), Jonathan Gilcrest (bass, keyboards) and Pat Leon (drums). They’ve performed in some of the biggest venues in Vegas and can’t wait to perform for us locals at the CasaBlanca Showroom. Tickets for this concert are on sale now and available at: http://casablancaresort.com/entertainment/

Sunday concludes the event with yet another balloon launch scheduled at 7:30am. Don’t miss this sky and sound spectacular in January at the CasaBlanca in Mesquite, Nevada.  For more information on the 2015 Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival please visit www.mesquitegaming.com  “It’s great to live and play!”
