This summer, The Stage Door invites audiences to experience a powerful story of resilience and kindness with its upcoming production of the hit musical Come From Away. Running from June 18 through July 11 at the historic Electric Theater, the production marks a meaningful moment for the Southern Utah arts community.

Based on the true events of September 11, 2001, Come From Away tells the story of Gander, Newfoundland, a small town that became an unexpected global refuge when 38 planes were diverted to its airstrip. In an instant, the town’s population nearly doubled as thousands of stranded travelers from around the world arrived.

Undaunted by language barriers or cultural differences, the people of Gander opened their homes and hearts, welcoming the “come-from-aways” with music, hospitality, and a spirit of unity. The story highlights acts of generosity and connection that emerged during a time of uncertainty and fear.

With book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the musical features a moving score and a script that has resonated with audiences worldwide. The production has received 37 award nominations and 13 wins, including Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards.

The Stage Door’s production is led by Director Kelly Thomas, Music Director Amy Gleave, and Stage Manager Kristen McPhie, bringing together an experienced creative team to tell this story on the local stage.

Performances will be held at the Electric Theater, 68 E. Tabernacle St., in St. George. Shows run Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM, June 18 through July 11, with a special Saturday matinee on June 27 at 2 PM.

“Come From Away gives us the opportunity to spread a message of kindness and resilience at a time when the world needs it most,” said Artistic Director Josh Scott. “This is a show that audiences will truly never forget.”
