Utah Tech Theatre Program is thrilled to announce the 2023-24 season first production of a captivating show of “THIS GIRL LAUGHS, THIS GIRL CRIES, THIS GIRL DOES NOTHING” at the Eccles Performing Arts Center on the Utah Tech campus. This modern-day fairytale promises to enchant audiences of all ages with its inventive storytelling, musicality, puppetry, and interactive elements. The show, offering approximately an hour of family-friendly entertainment, is scheduled to run from September 27th to September 30th, starting at 7:30 PM, at the Eccles Mainstage Theatre.

“THIS GIRL LAUGHS, THIS GIRL CRIES, THIS GIRL DOES NOTHING” is a modern fairytale story about three young sisters who are left in a forest by their woodcutter father and forced to find their own way in the world. From this fairytale beginning, three resolutions are made — one sister walks one way to find purpose, one the other to find adventure, and the third stays right where she is to create a home. Years later, having circumnavigated the globe and fought Vikings, crossed oceans, tamed wilds, and achieved greatness, the three sisters meet again as women.

Utah Tech Theatre, (Assistant Professor of Theatre) and director Brandon Bruce describes the show, “This is a beautiful, poetic play that’s about becoming. It’s about 3 young girls who grow to be women they never dreamed they would become, all while maintaining their identities. It’s a whimsical modern-day fairytale that is as fun as it is endearing.” Utah Tech Theatre major and co-director Rook Reilly adds, “This play is about the joy of engaging with the world and the hope involved in change. As three young girls face the challenges of growing up, they each forge paths and bonds that lead them exactly where they need to be to grow and live. A story that’s as poignant as it is funny, it comforts, delights, and soars.”

The stellar cast of “THIS GIRL LAUGHS, THIS GIRL CRIES, THIS GIRL DOES NOTHING” is predominantly comprised of Utah Tech students, most of whom are Theatre majors. The selection process was highly competitive, resulting in a brilliant ensemble that includes Ashlie Chaston, Adalyn Enslen, MJ Johnson, Kailey Nourian, David Parry, Courtnee Ramos, and Aubrey Sanders.
