“PETER PAN JR.” SOARS INTO THE OPERA HOUSE COURTESY OF ENCORE! AND SGMT!

In just a few short years, the much-talked-about nonprofit, Encore!, has solidified itself as one of the premier arts organizations in the area to focus directly with our youth. Its mission is to provide instruction and mentorship for those between the ages of 8 and 18 in an effort to prepare them for a future in the performing arts. By way of theater camps, the youth choir Aspire, acting courses, and theater productions that have included everything from “The Descendants” to “The Jungle Book,” Encore! is always looking to give kids the perfect creative outlet.

Up next, Encore! is teaming with St. George Musical Theater for a very special production of “Peter Pan Jr.” Based on the beloved source material by J.M. Barrie, made most famous by Walt Disney in 1953, this fantastical tale finds Wendy and her siblings being whisked away to the magical place known as Neverland where they join forces with the title character, a boy who refuses to grow up, in an effort to defeat the villainous Captain Hook.

This joyful take on an absolute classic was directed by local veteran performer Brooke Bang who is absolutely no stranger to live theater having played leads in the likes of “My Fair Lady,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “The Scarlett Pimpernel,” and “The 39 Steps,”  just to name a precious few. Bang will be assisted by accomplished Choreographer Amy Gee and gifted Musical Director Sarah Smith. With this special all-youth take on “Peter Pan,” it’s clear that Bang and crew are having the time of their lives and they have no doubt that patrons will too.

This all-ages show will alternate between two casts. It should also be noted that this briskly-paced production (it clocks in at around 50 minutes) will have a very limited run. “Peter Pan Jr.” will offer a 6 PM show and an 8 PM show over the course of 5 nights at the Opera House, located at 212 N. Main Street in St. George, UT. Show nights are Thursday, July 28th, Friday, July 29th, Saturday, July 30th, Monday, August 1st, and Tuesday, August 2nd.

Be sure to buy your tickets before they’re gone and support these wonderfully colorful (and high-energy) youngsters as they set out to entertain you.

Adam Mast
Adam Mast's love affair with the movies began at the ripe age of 6 after his parents took him to see a little film called Jaws at a drive-in theater in Northern California. From that moment, he was hooked. Mast began his epic stint as a film critic with The Independent back in May of 1996. At the time, the publication was still in its infancy and known as the Revolution. Through the years, Mast would go on to write for Zboneman.com before co-founding the entertainment site, Cinemast.net. His love of storytelling would also lead him to aid in the creation of the film-centric 501(C)(3) nonprofit, Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU)--An organization primarily known for championing storytellers both locally and worldwide by way of various film-related events held throughout the year, including The Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge, Desertscape International Film Festival, HorrorFest International, and A Merry Movie Christmas. His love of cinema and the arts in general knows no bounds. Mast currently resides in St. George, UT with his lovely (and undeniably supportive) wife Tonja and their four amazing children, McKenzie, Matthew, McKian, and Mason.
