TWO WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS SHOWS WORTHY OF YOUR TIME THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
There is certainly no shortage of worthwhile yuletide-inspired shows and events to take the family to in Southern Utah this holiday season–Tuacahn’s much-buzzed-about adaptation of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” at The Hafen Theater among them–but we want to focus on two specific shows here;
SGMT’S “BEST OF BROADWAY 3: THE CHRISTMAS EDITION”
St. George Musical Theater returns with an infectiously likable, high-energy, toe-tapping Yuletide version of their popular Best of Broadway series. The aptly titled “Best of Broadway 3: The Christmas Edition” features an epic but briskly-paced 17 music numbers (with no intermission) performed by some of the strongest song and dance talent Southern Utah has to offer. With lively direction by SGMT Artistic Director Bruce Bennett, stellar music direction by local songstress legend, Alice Ericksen, precise choreography from Amber Shakespeare, Troy Bryce, Erica Bryce, Kelby Tyrrell, and Maria Vaccaro, and an up-to-the-challenge cast and crew, this wonderfully vibrant show features a wide range of tunes that we refuse to reveal in this article. You’re best going in blind and letting the undeniable Christmas spirit wash over you like a warm holiday blanket. Only to say that you’re going to walk away from this winter wonderland of a production with a great big smile on your face.

ENCORE! PRESENTS “A CHRISTMAS CAROL”
Yes…We all know the legendary holiday tale that is the Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol” but you’ve never seen it quite like this. Put together by the amazingly talented folks at Encore! Performing Arts, this youth-centric take on the iconic source material features a script by local acting legend, Rhett Guter (who also directed) and all original songs by the gifted Adam Record. Encore! is known for giving our youth an outlet in which they can learn all about the arts and with this take on “A Christmas Carol,” they’ve initiated something they refer to as “Show With a Pro.” The majority of the cast is made up of supremely talented local-based youth with veteran actor/storyteller Corbin Allred (“Saints and Soldiers”) and scene-stealing local theater actor Adam Cheney (“Little Shop of Horrors”) serving as onstage mentors to a very dedicated cast. The end result is something truly remarkable. And what’s more, Encore!’s goal is to make “A Christmas Carol” an annual tradition moving forward. You can help them make this a reality by filling The Electric Theater throughout their limited 2-week run.
