A Haven from Uncertainty

We don’t know about you, but we have been sitting here for the last two weeks, listening to the news, hearing about all of the uncertainty, the closures, the cancelations, and shutdowns, and it’s becoming clearer and clearer to us as each moment’s passes; life as we know it is drastically changing and things may never be the same again for months – if not years. We hope we’re wrong, but it’s not looking likely…

That being said, we also feel it’s important to acknowledge, what exactly is to come next, over the next few weeks, is really anyone’s guess, but we’re starting to see that thousands, if not millions of people, are going to be seriously overwhelmed and distressed over the next few weeks and months. Livelihoods are going to be impacted, businesses are going to continue to close, some might even close permanently, and lots of people, some of our neighbors and friends, might even lose that which is most precious to each and every one of us; life itself.

So, with this in mind, we want to share the following. There is one thing that won’t change, at least we hope it won’t, or better yet, we expect it won’t. That is this… we here at The Independent are going to stand strong and tall for as long as we possibly can, and we’re going to do our best to stay on the job and at our posts. We intend to keep doing what we have done now for almost 25 years, and that is to be the voice of, and for, everyone here in southern Utah, including our Friends to the north and south who call this amazing countryside our home. This includes, but is not limited to everyone in –
(Washington County) – St. George, Ivins, Santa Clara, Washington, Hurricane, La Verkin, Toquerville, Leeds, Pine Valley, Enterprise, Central, Veyo, New Harmony, Dammeron Valley, Virgin, Apple Valley, Rockville, Hildale, Springdale, & Grafton.
(Iron County) – Cedar City, Brian Head, Paragonah, Newcastle, Beryl Junction, Parowan, Kanarraville, Enoch, & Summit.
(Kane County) – Kanab, Orderville, Glendale, Alton & Big Water.
Including our Friends to the north:
(Beaver County) – Beaver, Minersville & Milford.

And this even includes our Friends just to the south of us in parts of:

So, if you have ever contributed to our monthly paper or our online website in the past, we invite you to reach out and renew your resolve; pick up your voices where you left off. If you are a current contributor, advertiser or sponsor, we hope you will commit to raising your voices even higher.

We hope you will all find a way to continue supporting and contributing to the mission and purpose of The Independent.

Let’s remind them, and let them know, we are more than the sum of what is happening around us.

So here is what we would like to do with those we have supported in the past, you who have supported us over the years, and anyone else who would like to join us on this journey and mission.

Over the next few weeks, we don’t intend to sit around and wait, we will be introducing a few new columns and sections you can support, contribute to, and help create – right from the comfort of your offices and homes. We want and hope to make The Independent, a haven and refuge for anyone who wants or needs to rise above the calamities of this world by bringing everyone to a place where thought and voice will never be suppressed.
