Online registration opens for Tour of Utah events in Cedar City August 4–7

Individuals and groups interested in supporting the Tour of Utah professional stage race are invited to volunteer for Cedar City events August 4–7. Applications for a variety of volunteer positions are now available at tourofutah.com. General registration will remain open through the end of July. A “frequently asked questions” section is provided on the website to provide descriptions of specific positions, opportunities for groups and more information.

Cedar City will host its fourth Tour of Utah event as the overall start headquarters for the Tour of Utah, meaning that teams will come to town early to train and acclimate, and staff will prepare the start and finish line structures and other equipment that will be taken throughout the state.

“To have an event of this caliber come back to Cedar City is a testament to how amazing our community and volunteers are,” said Jessica Burr, volunteer director for the Cedar City Local Organizing Committee. “Volunteering for the Tour of Utah is such a fun and fulfilling way to serve Cedar City. Plus, you get to be surrounded by world-class athletes, the best event people in the business, and the electric vibe of race day.”

Burr said that about 300 volunteers are needed to donate their time and talents and in some cases to use a second language to host international cyclists and visitors. Some volunteers have already been assigned areas to assist Tour of Utah staff and the Cedar City Local Organizing Committee directly, but there is a need for other positions to be filled including 200 additional course marshals, three bike valets, 16 production team members, and eight green team members.

Individuals can request a specific assignment for a single shift or multiple shifts. Group assignments for families, corporations, clubs, and civic organizations are encouraged to inspire teamwork and support the local community.

Each volunteer will receive a commemorative Tour of Utah t-shirt, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen products. A boxed lunch will also be provided daily. The recommended age for volunteers is 18 and older. Applicants must sign a waiver, or have a signature provided by an adult or legal guardian if the applicant is 17 years of age or younger.

Cyclists will be introduced to the media and the community in Cedar City August 4. After a time trial in St. George August 7, Cedar City will be the Stage 1 start and finish before the race moves to Payson City Aug. 8, Antelope Island State Park and Layton City Aug. 9, Salt Lake City Aug. 10, Canyons Village and Snowbird Resort Aug. 11, and Park City Aug. 12.

Cedar City has set up a “Velo Cedar City” Facebook page to ensure the latest information regarding schedules, routes, traffic updates, and ancillary events is posted.

Individuals interested in working as traveling course marshals for all seven days of race week should email requests to volunteer@tourofutah.com.
