An open house discussion on the proposed Washington County Animal Shelter will be held Tuesday, March 29, at 6 p.m. The discussion, hosted by the county, will be held at the Washington County Commission Chambers, located at 197 E. Tabernacle St. in St. George.
An estimate from December put the construction costs for the facility at $1,932,568. The estimate is based on construction beginning in spring 2016.
The open house will provide the public with an opportunity to offer feedback on not only the funding of the facility but also its function and design.
Washington County Commissioner Zachary Renstrom said that a building of this size will only be possible with the help of contributions and donations from the community and animal advocacy groups.
While many in the county believe the proposed shelter is the best way to plan for the future of animal care in the area, less expensive options could include a smaller, though less capable, building or contracting with other existing municipal shelters.
