Washington County Republican Women’s luncheon hosts Dean Cox, Zach Renstrom

By Haylee Caplin

Washington County Commissioner Dean Cox and Water Conservancy District general manager Zach Renstrom will be the guest speakers at the Washington County Republican Women’s luncheon March 7 at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon will be held at The Abbey Inn located at 1129 S. Bluff St. in St. George.

Dean Cox has been actively serving Washington County for many years beginning with Emergency Services Director from 1991 to 2009. He has served as chair of other local boards and nonprofits including Leadership Dixie, the Washington County School District Foundation, the State Emergency Management Advisory Board, and the Washington County Republican Party as well as search and rescue. In 2009, Cox was asked to be the Washington County Administrator and worked closely with the Board of County Commissioners. Successful projects included spearheading the construction of the new Washington County Justice Center and the complete renovation and leasing of the Office Plaza Building. In August of 2016, after 25 years of service to Washington County and 33 years of involvement in a private family business, he resigned his position as County Administrator and sold his business interest in Colorland Sales and Service. This allowed him more time to devote to his growing cluster of grandchildren and to pursue his dream of running for a seat on the Washington County Commission. He was elected in 2017 and currently serves as Washington County Commissioner.

Zachary Renstrom recently served as Washington County Commissioner before taking the general manager position for the Washington County Water Conservancy District this year. He was appointed to the WCWCD board in 2015. He’s served as an attorney for Lincoln, Gustafson & Cercos and was a former principal owner at the engineering firm of Bush and Gudgell. His professional experience as a licensed engineer and patent attorney has helped him have a good understanding of companies and infrastructure in order to be successful here in Washington County. Renstrom is politically active and involved in county issues with the BLM and other organizations. He is married with three children and enjoys being involved in scouting and outdoors as well as his membership in the Rotary club.

We look forward to learning information regarding the upcoming developments on the Northern Corridor with the desert tortoise habitat protections. Additionally, Renstrom will discuss the supposed needs for the Lake Powell Pipeline and where it stands for funding and infrastructure. Attendees will be able to ask questions at the end of the presentation.

The cost is $20 for members and $23 for non-members, which includes lunch and a donation to the Embracing our Heroes Scholarship Fund. Please pre-pay at washingtoncountyrepublicanwomen.com or RSVP by calling (435) 656-4361 or emailing wcrwmail@gmail.com.
