On Tuesday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m., the Zion Canyon Field Institute’s Fern and J.L. Crawford Lecture Series will feature Terry Tempest Williams who will speak about her new book, “The Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America’s National Parks.” The lecture will be given at the Canyon Community Center in Springdale and is free and open to the public.
Williams takes her power of perception and returns to her core passion of public lands, focusing on our national parks. From Grand Teton National Park to the Gettysburg National Battlefield and Gates of the Arctic, her new book is a braided narrative of natural history, personal history, and how the values inherent in wildness are deeply held American virtues. Her book discusses the dialogue between ecological and social justice alongside an examination of how a sense of place creates an ethic of place that translates to a purposeful life.
Williams’ books will be available for purchase and signing. Canyon Community Center is located at 126 Lion Blvd in Springdale. Seating is limited, and early attendance is advised.
Zion Canyon Field Institute is the educational arm of Zion Natural History Association, the official cooperating partner of Zion National Park. The lecture is made possible by a grant from the National Park Foundation.
