A message from Mesquite's Mayor Al Litman

As mayor of Mesquite, Nevada, I have been given the honor of writing an article about our lovely city, and by doing so letting our neighbors in southern Utah keep up on all the happenings in town.

In January, the CasaBlanca Casino and Resort hosted the 10th annual Motor Mania with over 800 vehicles participating. The event was three days long and fun each day. The weather was more than cooperative and helped bring cars and trucks from as far away as Washington State. Of course, Utah was well represented with lots of outstanding vehicles. I had the privilege of handing out numerous awards to several hundred owners. The reason I mention an event that has already taken place is that Motor Mania will be returning in September and should be even larger. I’ll write more about it later in the year.

Our hot air balloon festival, also sponsored by the Casa, went off without a hitch this year. Weather can always be a problem, but not this year. It was warm and sunny with no winds. Ideal conditions. The balloons were beautiful. I know fans came from Utah because I always look at the license plates.

March should prove to be another exciting month in Mesquite as the weather gets even warmer. Gold Butte, now a national monument, should see an increase in visitors with great hiking and off-road fun. You can’t get bored. And we don’t have the crowds and congestion of our nearby national parks.

March and April bring us the Mesquite Senior Games, dedicated to promoting the health and fitness of those fifty years of age and better. You are invited to participate in a variety of events against age-group peers. Competition includes basketball skills, a fitness hike, long drive, road races, softball, tennis, bicycling, a target pistol event, bocce ball, poker, shotgun sports, and of course the ever popular pickleball. The Mesquite Senior games also hosts the CAN/Am and winter classic men’s senior softball tournaments later this year.

If you have not been to Mesquite before or it’s been awhile, I invite you to come on down and see all the great new things to do. With great places to eat and stay, I assure you fun is just around the corner.

I hope to write about our community on a regular basis and hope to see you here soon.
