The DOVE Center recently received a $20,000 grant from The Allstate Foundation to support domestic violence survivors as they learn financial literacy skills in preparation for their transition to healthy new lives. The funds will be used to offer classes that will follow The Allstate Foundation’s Moving Ahead Through Financial Management curriculum. Classes will be led by Dr. Phillip Lee, DSU faculty emeritus, with a background in business, marketing, and educational leadership.

DOVE Center“We are very much about personal empowerment, and with so many survivors feeling financially paralyzed, we would be doing a disservice by not providing access to this critical material,” said DOVE’s Executive Director, Lindsey Boyer. “Thanks to The Allstate Foundation’s support, DOVE Center can help survivors rebuild or establish financial security in their lives.”

Shonie Christensen, local Allstate agency owner and board member of DOVE Center said, “Financial factors are the strongest predictors in a survivor’s decision to stay, leave, or return to an abusive relationship. This grant from The Allstate Foundation will help survivors recover from the devastation of leaving behind a home, income, benefits, and the economic security that was destroyed by their abuser.”

The Allstate Foundation awards funding to organizations across the country with a focus on building financial independence for domestic violence survivors, empowering youth, and celebrating the charitable community involvement of Allstate agency owners and employees.
