Frontier Homestead will provide free admission for all visitors on Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 11th annual Museum Day Live! For one day only, participating museums across the United States will emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission every day, and open their doors for free to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket.

“Participating in Museum Day Live! allows locals and out-of-town visitors alike an opportunity to learn and experience more of our community’s amazing story,” says Todd Prince, Frontier Homestead Park manager. “If you have not visited the museum for awhile, I am sure you will be delighted with the many opportunities for fun and learning we have available.”

The mission of Frontier Homestead State Park is to collect, preserve, and interpret the rich cultural history of the Iron Country area. Frontier Homestead State Park, originally called Iron Mission, opened in 1973 to house the Gronway Parry wagon and carriage collection. Over the years, Frontier Homestead has evolved and expanded to include historic buildings and hands-on activities to educate and entertain the whole family. Hands-on activities ranging from washing laundry to loading a wagon are available, giving visitors a chance to sample life in the late 1800s. Special events provide fun for the whole family throughout the year. A highlight of many visits is the chance to climb in a replica Concord stagecoach. Guns, snow machines, and the oldest brick house in Cedar City round out the visit.

The public can visit the Smithsonian’s website to learn more and download a Museum Day Live! ticket. Each ticket grants the ticketholder and one guest free access to any participating museum on Sept. 26. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.

For more information, call at (435) 586-9290 or visit the park’s Facebook page or its website. Frontier Homestead is located at 635 N. Main St. in Cedar City.
