The St. George Dance Company will host the Red Rock Dance Festival June 1–3. The festival is is three full days of moving, collaborating, dance-making, and performing at Dixie State University. The festival’s mission is to bring together a community of choreographers, performers, educators, and students in a cooperative environment to study, perform, and create new work.

A feature performance by New York City-based dance company Paul Taylor 2 will be held June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cox Auditorium. Paul Taylor 2 will also teach some of the workshops.

Multiple dance performances by various choreographers will be held June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cox Auditorium. The dance pieces submitted will be adjudicated by Paul Taylor 2 rehearsal director Ruth Andrien and Greg Sample, founder of Sample Dance and former dancer for Celine Dion, Cirque de Soleil, Phantom, and Hubbard Street.

Choreographers can submit their work and receive feedback from the panel and represent a range of experience from university faculty to emerging artists.

In addition to the professional training program for ages 16 and up, the Red Rock Dance Festival provides a junior workshop for ages 9–15.

The Red Rock Dance Festival builds upon an annual choreography showcase hosted by the St. George Dance Company and directed by Summer Belnap Robertson. The concert has been held in southern Utah for the past nine consecutive years and has attracted dance companies, choreographers, and dancers from all over the Southwest.

With RAP Tax financial support, the Red Rock Dance Festival has expanded from a one-day showcase performance to a three-day festival that includes both performances and various workshops.

Participants will work intimately with esteemed artists on developing and exploring ideas in dance workshops. Masterclasses will be taught by renowned dance scholars and university dance professors.  Classes offered include modern, jazz, repertory, improvisation, composition, ballet, and partnering.
