St. George Musical Theater

After going dark for over 5 years when it lost its theater, St. George Musical Theater, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, primarily volunteer-based arts organization has completed its first season, dubbed the “comeback season.” The group produced five popular shows—“The Sound of Music,” “The Odd Couple,” “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” “Moonlight and Magnolias,” and “The Music Man”—along with sold-out performance concerts featuring popular singer-songwriters Mindy Gledhill and Eric Dodge.

“All we can say is Wow! and thank you,” exclaimed the theater’s executive director Bruce Bennett who, along with managing director Dan Olsen, worked for many years to get the theater back on its feet. “SGMT’s incredibly successful return was a wonderful collaboration of the City of St. George, our supportive patrons—both new and old—and countless volunteers who donated their time on-stage and backstage.”

Noted Olsen, “Over 10,000 patrons came through our doors this season, which is one measure of our success, but the joy of seeing what community theater can do to uplift, inspire, and bring people together can’t be overstated.”

Season tickets are available on the theater’s website at a significant discount to their already very affordable ticket prices.

“The feedback we got last year from our patrons is that $80 for a season of 5 shows at the quality we produce is truly a bargain,” said Bennett, adding that patrons with season tickets will receive priority seating. Gift certificates are also available.

The theater’s first show, “West Side Story,” will open August 13 and features the theater’s directing debut of artistic director Debe Jacobs.

“We are really excited about Debe’s vision for this show. She has an incredible team around her, and with her many years of experience, this presentation of a classic will sure to be unlike any production of this show audiences will have ever seen,” said Bennett.

The theater is seeking corporate and individual sponsors for this season, according to Bennett. “The great thing is how far even modest sized donations can go in our theater. They really can have a huge impact since we keep our costs as low as possible.”
