Southern Utah Museum of Art holds Spring Breakout art camp

In conjunction with Iron County School District’s Spring break April 15–19, students grades K–6 can participate in Spring Breakout art camp, a week-long creative experience at Southern Utah Museum of Art in Cedar City.

This spring marks the second year SUMA will host Spring Breakout. The art camp offers children a fun, imaginative way to spend spring break while engaging with many art forms. Each day of the week will focus on a different theme, including visual art, poetry, and music. Campers will make a new piece of art each day as they learn about that day’s art focus.

The camp consists of two week-long sessions. The morning session from 9 to 11 a.m. will be available for students in grades K–2. The afternoon session from 2 to 4 p.m. will be geared toward grades 3–6.

“Spring Breakout is a great chance for kids to experiment with the artist process, explore their world, and create art,” said Katie Jensen, SUMA’s school and family learning associate. “Every child can be creative. Our goal is to encourage campers to think of themselves as artists, use their imaginations, and discover the fun in making art.”

On the last day, campers will take the art they have created throughout the week and curate their own exhibition. “Museum Day” will be open for parents and grandparents to tour their artists’ exhibitions and see what the campers have been working on all week.

The registration fee for Spring Breakout is $100 per child or $75 for SUMA members. Registration is open on SUMA’s website and Eventbrite. Interested attendees can reach out to suma@suu.edu with questions or for discount information.
