As the final show in its successful comeback season, St. George Musical Theater (SGMT) presents the classic “The Music Man” featuring the escapades of slippery salesman Harold Hill, skeptical librarian Marian, and a group of Iowa stubborn townsfolk.

“It is a beloved favorite, for sure,” noted Executive Director Bruce Bennett. “But it actually hasn’t been performed in southern Utah all that much, especially as a true community production.”

The theater was able to bring back veteran director Doug Bishop who directed some of SGMT’s most popular shows of the past including “Singing in the Rain,” “Man of La Mancha, and “”Steel Magnolias.”

SGMT Managing Director Dan Olsen indicated that Doug had literally moved out of town and kept busy doing theater but was willing to temporarily relocate to help SGMT.

“I offered my basement and he said that would work!”

“The Music Man” features perhaps the biggest cast in SGMT history which “is really a challenge in our small Opera House space,” said SGMT Artistic Director Debe Jacobs.

“But so many talented people auditioned we had to find room for as many as we could.”

The cast features many families with multiple family members in the show including SGMT veteran Brent Palmer as Harold Hill whose wife Andrea and their children Gabriel and Natalia are all performing together.

“We are having a blast, we are so glad SGMT is back.”

Guests who attend opening night April 2, will be the first to hear about SGMT’s lineup for the 2015-2016 season.

“If you thought this first season was great, what until you see what we have planned for next season–we can’t wait to announce the lineup of rarely performed classics and newer future classics,” said Bennett.

The Music Man runs April 2 – May 9, Monday, Thursday, and Saturday at 7:30pm. Tickets are $17-$21. Doors open at 7:00pm. For tickets visit: www.sgmusicaltheather.com or call 1-866-967-8167
