State Route 9 construction begins in SpringdaleConstruction is scheduled to begin Oct. 16. at the south end of the project near the Majestic View Lodge and move up canyon towards the Driftwood and Zion Rock & Gem (Phase 1). Utility work will continue moving up the canyon towards Zion National Park. We anticipate 30–45 days per segment. Construction is planned to move with traffic on one side of State Route 9 up to the park gate then back down the other side.

One side of SR-9 will be closed in each section at a time for just over 1 mile. One-way traffic will be maintained with flaggers and/or a temporary traffic signal with stoppage times up to 15 minutes. An additional flagging location for utility work will occur up the canyon with stoppage time of up to 10 minutes. Delays should be expected.

Night work will begin soon after construction starts. Night activities may include utility work and materials hauling and placement. Area residents and businesses can expect an increase in nighttime noise, light, and activity.

During construction, access or side streets may be in the middle of the one-mile closure. During lower traffic times, it may be difficult for some to determine which direction has the right of way. Before pulling out onto SR-9, drivers should wait for traffic traveling in the direction they want to go and then follow the last car in the line.
