The Healing Tree announced its March meditation session, beginning March 8 and continuing through March 29 on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. Participants will be introduced to a variety of meditation approaches designed to increase awareness and foster a calm mind. Each class will be taught by Todd Prince. No previous meditation experience is required, and the sessions are free and open to the public.
The March meditation session will focusing on the Brahma Viharas, considered in Buddhism to be the four highest emotions: lovingkindness, compassion, joy with others, and equanimity. Although the foundation for the classes derive from Buddhist tradition, the classes and teachings are non-denominational and can be applied to any spiritual path or religious practice.
Beginning training in Eastern philosophy and the martial art of Jeet Kune Do at the age of 13, Prince has studied with numerous teachers for the past 30 years, bringing to his practice a wide variety of philosophical, religious, and meditative experience. He has received formal training in vipassana and tonglen, integrating them into his meditation instruction for the past fourteen years.
Prince considers his meditation practice and classes as a path of skillful means, allowing for a life of reflection and contemplation that leads to clarity, compassion, and courage and to conducting ourselves in a way that diminishes suffering and nurtures happiness.
The meditation classes are offered at no cost. In the spirit of sharing meditation instruction, contributions toward the classes will be by donation. The Healing Tree is located at 535 S. Main St., Suite 4, in Cedar City. For more information, visit healingcedarcity.com.
