Washington County Attorney Brock Belnap steps down to work for Water Conservancy District

Washington County Attorney Brock Belnap will step down as county attorney Feb. 17. Belnap has accepted a position at the Washington County Water Conservancy District.

As a result of the pending vacancy, an election to fill the unexpired term of county attorney will take place this year. The filing deadline for interested candidates is March 19.

Belnap served as county attorney since 2003. During his tenure, Belnap’s office prosecuted tens of thousands of cases. Belnap implemented new programs focused on reducing recidivism and protecting the rights of victims. A focus of Belnap’s tenure was ongoing efforts to eliminate corruption and abuse in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints communities of Hildale and Colorado City. Belnap also lead the county’s legal efforts to preserve access to public lands.
