I’m honestly surprised it’s taken me a year to write about Red Fort.
For as often as I find myself recommending it to friends, it should have made this list months ago. Indian food has become part of my regular dining rotation, and about once a month I inevitably find myself craving the warm spices, fragrant basmati rice, fresh naan, and rich sauces that have made Red Fort one of St. George’s longtime favorites.
Like any good neighborhood restaurant, everyone seems to have “their order.” Mine almost always starts with the Lamb Biryani. Layers of aromatic basmati rice, tender lamb, raisins, cashews, and spices come together in a dish that’s hearty enough to stand on its own, served with a cooling side of cucumber raita.
Another staple at our table is the Saag Paneer, a creamy spinach dish filled with cubes of fresh homemade cheese. Even friends who claim they aren’t spinach fans usually end up stealing a few bites. And while Butter Chicken—listed on the menu as Chicken Makhani—is often the gateway dish for first-time visitors, there’s a reason it’s so popular. The rich tomato, butter, and cream sauce is comforting without overpowering the spices that make Indian cuisine so distinctive.
One of my favorite things about dining at Red Fort is going with a group. Everyone orders something different, and suddenly the table becomes a family-style feast where every meal is a chance to discover a new favorite. No matter how many times I visit, someone inevitably convinces me to try a dish I haven’t had before.

If you’re new to Indian cuisine, don’t let the extensive menu intimidate you. Every entrée can be prepared mild, medium, hot, or very hot, making it easy to ease into the flavors at your own pace. The staff is always happy to answer questions, and sharing several dishes is the best way to experience the variety the menu has to offer.
Whether it’s a casual lunch, dinner with friends, or a celebration, Red Fort continues to deliver the kind of meal that keeps you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished the last bite.
