Musical Reader’s Theater tonight at the St. George Tabernacle

St. George TabernacleThe Independent

If you are interested in the early settling of St. George, you should come to the St. George Tabernacle tonight for a Musical Reader’s Theater.

Rarely do audiences of the Historic St. George Tabernacle have the opportunity to be entertained by an artistic offering known as Musical Reader’s Theater, it’s happening tonight at 7:00 p.m. David Cannon and his wife Wilhemina personally experienced many of the now legendary stories of early St. George. Nonie Sorenson is the play’s creator and director, who also accompanies the performance.

Sorenson has made every effort to portray the historical figures as accurately as possible, using their actual words in musical lyrics where ever possible. She and her husband, Maynard moved to Ivins twenty years ago where he, a noted wood sculptor of large birds, has created a studio for his creations in their back yard.  The Sorenson’s are very interested in the historical accounts of the St. George area, and have done other writings similar to this production of David and Willie.”

The title roles of “David and Willie” will be portrayed by Jim and Jill Sevy, local performers whose talents are well known and enjoyed by local audiences.  They are supported by Gordon & Jan Heward who, according to Sevy, ”are so talented they portray all the other roles between the two of them.”  The Heward’s are heavily involved in local professional pursuits and the arts.

The program is FREE, dress is casual, and everyone is welcome.  Access for those with disabilities and an elevator are available at the Tabernacle west entrance.  For more information see www.stgeorgetemplevisitorscenter.info or call 673-5181.
