Chez Kane
A Self-Titled Debut Solo Album by Chez Kane

– By Rob Jones –

“I wasn’t born in the wrong era; I was born in the ’90s knowing what came before me is worth preserving.” That is a statement by Chez herself and I think really sums up her debut album.

Chez Kane is by no means new as a recording artist, she has already recorded two albums as one of three sisters fronting the band, Kane’d.

This self-titled album is a departure from Kane’d’s sound and encapsulates the great female-fronted melodic rock of the 80’s that you will most likely associate with Pat Benatar, Vixen, Lita Ford, Heart, Lee Aaron, and Scandal.

The production, songwriting, and playing comes courtesy of Swedish Rock icon Danny Rexon of Crazy Lixx, who reached out to Chez with a vision in mind to bring back the quintessential female rocker. You can hear Rexon’s style all over the songs but Chez’s album doesn’t sound like a Crazy Lixx album with female vocals. Instead, this album succeeds in the sound it was intended to capture.

The first three songs “Better Than Love”, “All Of It”, and “Rocket On The Radio” remind me of Pat Benatar. “Ball N’ Chain” could be for Chez what “The Warrior ” was for Scandal. “Defender of the Heart”, musically, reminds me of the 80s self-titled Heart album, and “Dead End Street” would’ve fit nicely on the debut album from Vixen.

In fact, this album reminds me more of Vixen than anyone I have a reference here. Musically, it’s not far off from them and Chez vocally fits somewhere between Janet Gardner and Pat Benatar, and that’s great company to be in.

What Chez and Danny have done here is revive the 80s female melodic rock icon for the modern era and I for one hope this album inspires more music like this.

So, if you are a fan of this style of Rock, you’ll love Chez as much as I do…
